Pop-up Alley

There are 3 factors that makes the residents choose to have their selling in such a narrow alley in Sham Shui Po with bad hygiene condition.

First, spatial aspect, as Sham Shui Po is a high-density district in Hong Kong. People even
have no place to walk through the pedestrian walkway. It makes street-sellers try to choose
some empty space letting them to displace their goods to sell. And it still attract residents to
walk through the alley to sell what they are selling.

Second, social aspect, as there are a relation linkage of the neighbourhood. It is just like a
leisure time. When they are selling their goods, they would try to chat with the customers
which the big shops cannot do. The relation between customers and the hawkers are closed.

Third, Living aspects, mentioned that most of the Sham Shui Po residents are poor and
elderly. They need money for living, selling products is one of measure that they could earn
money from and maintain their daily live.

Therefore, base on these elements. My proposed design project will try to improve or solve
the above aspects.

First, to enhance the environmental quality in the alley letting hawkers have more confortable
and better hygiene working area.

Second, to provide a platform for the customers and hawkers to get their relationship closer
even better than todays situation.
